About this community

Azalea Manor is a senior living community in Orlando, Florida, in the Azalea Park area about five miles east of downtown. Listings associate it with assisted living and memory care, while a detailed description characterizes it as a secured memory-care residence; the available sources do not resolve its exact licensed care classification. The described single-story building has capacity for 75 residents and includes features intended to help people with cognitive impairment find their way around.

The layout is described as using looped hallways and color cues for wayfinding. Displays outside suite entrances hold residents’ photographs and personal mementos. Living arrangements include private and companion suites, described with large windows, individual temperature controls, and cable and telephone hookups. Each suite has an en-suite half-bath with grab bars and non-slip flooring. Pull cords in bedrooms and bathrooms and wearable safety pendants are listed. Directory information also mentions furnished accommodations, resident parking, weekly housekeeping, personal laundry, and linen service.

Care descriptions include around-the-clock support from caregivers trained in dementia care. One listing says staff receive state-required Alzheimer’s and related-disorders training, along with ongoing instruction in validation therapy and behavior-based pain assessment. A licensed practical nurse is described as on site or on call at all times, with duties including medication administration, insulin and glucometer management, basic wound care, and coordination with outside clinicians and rehabilitation therapists. Scheduled visiting services are listed for dental hygiene, podiatry, laboratory work, X-rays, and psychiatric care.

Meals are prepared on site and served family-style three times a day, with snacks and beverages available at hydration stations. A consulting dietitian oversees menus, with modifications described for mechanical-soft, low-sugar, and low-sodium diets. A monthly food forum gives residents and families a chance to sample dishes and share feedback. Activities are scheduled from mid-morning into early evening and emphasize purposeful tasks that draw on retained abilities. Examples include chair yoga, music-and-memory sessions, aromatherapy, guided garden walks, baking, painting with a local art guild, and live music. A multisensory room has light, sound, and tactile features; a separate workshop includes sorting stations and tactile materials for people with advanced dementia.

Outdoor areas include two landscaped interior courtyards, a screened lanai, and a covered walking path. Descriptions note perimeter fencing and magnetic-lock gates around these spaces. Other shared features include a beauty salon and barber shop, a library nook with large-print and picture books, indoor common areas, and a private dining room families can reserve. Scheduled transportation is described for medical appointments and scenic outings, including trips to Lake Eola Park and Harry P. Leu Gardens. Therapy dogs and miniature horses from local organizations are reported to visit weekly; resident pets are not housed at the community.

Sunday devotional services representing several denominations and one-to-one support from a nondenominational chaplain are listed. A family council is described as meeting quarterly to discuss care plans, events, and feedback. The community is also reported to host a professionally facilitated caregiver support group each month in partnership with the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center of Orlando.

“They really know how to treat people with Alzheimer's here. I like the guy who runs the place, he keeps me updated. They aren't as fancy as some of the other places, but it's clean, and the staff is friendly. It's homey, and still nice, and they have much better care.”

Just speaking to the lady on the phone you can tell how unprofessional this place is. I asked her how big is the facility how many rooms do you have how many patients and she asked me is this necessary for you to know I said of course it is if I’m sending my family there she was not happy about my response. I kindly told her this is not gonna be a right fit for and your future reference when people are sending their loved ones there they wanna know where they’re going to be in what type of facility.

We visited the Azalea Manor assisted living facility while searching for a place for my friend's mother to live in the area. The outside was very nicely maintained. We visited the Azalea Manor assisted living facility while searching for a place for my friend's mother to live in the area. The outside was very nicely maintained. The grounds offer easy access for residents, where they can enjoy walking around freely safely each day. We could see that there is also plenty of space to have cookouts, parties and picnics. The foyer was fresh and bright with very nice decorations and furniture. All of the indoor rooms had plenty of fresh air and light. Each room was beautifully decorated and furnished. The colors throughout the building were soothing and comfortable. Communal activity rooms were spacious, with comfortable furniture. The seniors can easily socialize, make crafts, play games, watch TV and films and participate in many stimulating activities. The private rooms featured plenty of space in nicely decorated surroundings. All had a great deal of natural light and fresh air with very comfortable furniture. We liked the dining areas, which featured a pleasant atmosphere and lots of food choices. The food looked and smelled appetizing. The menus all had healthy food options for all kinds of diets. Healthy snacks are offered all day and into the evening, as well as whenever residents request them. The facility can accommodate all levels of ambulation. Seniors can use the exercise room at any time and also go on daily walks. Aerobics and yoga classes are offered. The residents go on trips to visit the many cultural venues, eat at casual and fine restaurants and enjoy the many local events offered.
