Aviva Senior Living is a not-for-profit rental community in Sarasota, Florida, for residents age 62 and older. Its 27-acre campus brings independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation together. An entrance fee is not required. The campus offers different care settings, so residents may have options on site if their needs change.
Independent living is offered at Kobernick House, a 187-apartment community. Anchin Assisted Living is intended for people who need some day-to-day help while remaining largely independent, and Anchin Memory Care serves people living with dementia or other types of memory loss. Benderson Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation provides long-term residential care and short-stay rehabilitation. Together, these settings cover a range from apartment living to more substantial care and rehabilitation.

Kobernick has studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom layouts. Options include the 310-square-foot Melody studio, the 510-square-foot Harmony L-shaped studio, the 649-square-foot Sonata one-bedroom, the 980-square-foot Aria two-bedroom with two baths, and the 1,315-square-foot Opus deluxe two-bedroom. Apartments have full kitchens, walk-in closets and secure storage. One- and two-bedroom apartments have screened-in lanais; studios do not. Many apartments overlook nature or the landscaped campus. Kobernick apartment living includes weekly housekeeping and linen service, room service, and listed utilities and household services such as lawn care, maintenance and repairs, telephone and internet. Guest rooms are available on campus for an additional fee. Pets are welcome at Kobernick, subject to a 30-pound weight limit.
Dining options include casual and formal meals, restaurant-style dining, a café or bistro, and a private dining room. Listed meal choices include vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and low- or no-sodium options. Guest meals and room service are also available. A salon and barbershop, 24-hour emergency response system, and 24-hour maintenance service are among the campus services. Complimentary transportation is listed for doctor visits, shopping, banking and local cultural events; transportation to other destinations may be available at cost. The campus is designated as a hurricane shelter-in-place community.
Shared amenities include a fitness center, fitness classes and a heated outdoor pool. More than a mile of tropical trails and walking paths runs through the campus grounds. Programming includes live concerts, an author series, community events and classes. Aviva University offers classes on subjects such as literature, science and history. A full-time Wellness Director and a full-time Director of Life Enrichment are listed as campus resources. Transportation to Sarasota events, attractions, shopping and dining gives residents another way to take part in activities beyond the campus.

My mother has lived in both the Independent as well as in the Skilled Nursing sections at Aviva. The medical care in both wings is stellar. The medical care, in particular in Skilled Nursing is phenomenal. The Nurse Practitioner, the RNs, LPNs and CNAs are all highly skilled and they truly care. We toured Aviva Senior Living. It was very welcoming, and everybody was very nice. The place was gorgeous, well-kept, and very nice. What I liked least about it was the size of the rooms. The staff was very nice.

The room I saw was nice, but I thought it was be a bit on the pricey side. One thing they stressed was that there were four-level facilities, and you could move from independent to assisted living. One of the things that I didn't like about Aviva was that there was a lot of walking involved, even on the independent side of the facility. I have difficulty walking long distances, so I was tired of walking around the facility and up to where the model apartment was.…

I toured Aviva Senior Living, and the staff was very nice. When I drove in, it was a bit confusing about which building was which. The room I saw was nice, but I thought it was be a bit on the pricey side. One thing they stressed was that there were four-level facilities, and you could move from independent to assisted living. One of the things that I didn't like about Aviva was that there was a lot of walking involved, even on the independent side of the facility. I have difficulty walking long distances, so I was tired of walking around the facility and up to where the model apartment was. It was a long, city-block walk to where I would have to keep my car. They offered the stove and cooking facilities.

Full disclaimer we don’t know about Aviva from a resident standpoint, but you can tell that it is a high quality place. We are parents of a Sarasota elementary student and Aviva hosts piano recitals for the Sarasota community of music teachers. The concert they allowed the kids to have, with residents in attendance, was a fun and exciting experience for everyone involved. It is a true sign that they are integrated with the community at large. We appreciated our experience very much and hope future potential residents see it as an indication that Aviva is not a remote destination but rather part of the next generation of Sarasota residents. It’s a high quality place.
Love the staff. Like the activities. Very happy with the food. Very nice neighbors. A few issues...electricity went out during storm. I would think the generators would Cover the rooms! Shower way too small! I also think for the first week there should be a big sister to help get settled and acclimated.
I like that Aviva Senior Living is clean and that it doesn't smell. I like the idea of living in a community like that. They have a library, a hair salon, and a swimming pool. The staff who gave the tour was friendly. The dining area looked nice. It was well lit and spacious. The facility looked good. They have concerts and lectures there, too.
We went to Aviva Senior Living. It was excellent, brand new. The rooms were excellent, and most of them hadn't even been lived in. They had covered parking. Everything was super, super clean, and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We did not eat there, but the dining area was very clean. At the time we visited there were people in there playing cards.
Staff are very contented and always available. Numbers in Memory Care are down currently because of deaths and skilled nursing needs (which is available but on a different floor), so staff ratios are high, but patient socialization with a choice for friendships is limited. This is a recent occurrence.
