A Place Like Home

My parents moved into A Place Like Home. It's just a small facility and they're sharing a room in the facility. It seemed like the administrative staff was very caring and interested in trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. It's just a large, single-family home that has been converted into an assisted living facility. They've got four to six rooms, I'm not sure how big it was. It was very clean when I was there. They were very caring. The staff was going to try to have an outing with my father. I had spoken to the administrator about it as well, and they were going to try to get him out. The administrator worked with me on the monthly fee and we were able to come to an amicable conclusion on that, which I felt was very fair. It's not a large facility. So what they do is they bring in folks on a staggered basis to do certain things, like from what my understanding was, there will be a doctor on-site once, once every three weeks. There will be a nurse on-site once every three weeks. They have beauty care type things, for haircuts and things like that once every couple of weeks, so they're bringing people in to do the services as opposed to having somebody on site all the time because it's not a large facility.

We went to A Place Like Home. It was an older house, but we didn't think it was nice. I thought it was pretty small, the rooms were small, and dark. It just feels old. The staff was very nice, it's owned by a family, and the mother and two kids run the place. We had a miscommunication; they didn't know we were coming. The dining room is right where they watch TV, they have individual reclining chairs, and the dining area is right there.

I just called to find out more information about what this company offers and the "Doctor" said "What do you want?" And then hung up on me. Won't be using this company. Wouldn't recommend it. The voicemail message for the company goes right to a personal message from that same "doctor" which is confusing. Does she not have anyone to answer the phone and answer clients' calls? Super unprofessional.

An older home and not updated enough. It felt more disorganized and no real living room setting. There was a smell to the house and noticed as soon as you came in

My mother-in-law lived at A Place Like Home for five years. She was happy there. She had been in a large facility before and felt lost. She was treated very well at A Place Like Home. There were outings for lobster dinners (her favorite) and other restaurants, numerous field trips, Moose Club dancing and karaoke, and more. In this small home, she had more choices and attention than ever before. Visitation was easy and comfortable. But, most importantly, she got excellent care. My wife and I were pleased. We highly recommend A Place Like Home.
