Nice rooms and staff very friendly

I am compelled to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the care provided at Southern Pines facility. The social worker and staff demonstrated manipulative and dishonest behavior, which I believe compromised the well-being of my loved one. On multiple occasions, the social worker attempted to have patients sign documents without allowing them to read or have others review the content. In the absence of a power of attorney, the staff would allegedly manipulate paperwork and medication to prolong the patient's stay. Whenever my loved one would report the substandard care to others, the staff would withhold essential medications, including psychiatric and pain medications, as well as nicotine patches. I personally experienced the staff's negligence when I had to purchase nicotine patches, only to have them lost, and was given excuses about the orders being misplaced or given to other patients. On one occasion, I received a 5 am call informing me that my loved one's eye was swelling, allegedly due to pink eye. However, upon my arrival, I discovered that the swelling was more severe than described, and the nurse informed me that my loved one had been administered every medication on the cart before finally falling asleep. I immediately demanded that the staff call 911, but they refused, stating that doctor's approval was required. I threatened to call 911 myself, and eventually, the staff relented. My loved one was taken to Morton Plant North Hospital, where it was discovered that her eye pressure was significantly elevated, measuring 48-51, whereas the normal range is around 20. We pleaded with the hospital not to release her back to Southern Pines, citing the facility's negligence, but our concerns were disregarded. This experience occurred after my loved one's cancer diagnosis, which required bowel surgery and subsequent rehabilitation at Southern Pines. During her stay, the facility failed to schedule follow-up appointments with the appropriate doctor, and instead, took her to the wrong doctor's office. The social worker discouraged my loved one from contacting me, claiming that she would handle her care, which led to feelings of guilt and stress. I visited my loved one daily and witnessed the subpar care firsthand. The staff neglected to assist her with bathroom trips, medication, and wound care. They would often leave her on the toilet unattended, and her personal belongings would frequently go missing. There were also instances of bedbugs. The only staff members who demonstrated compassion and care were a young man named Andrew and an older lady with blonde hair. Despite my loved one's evident deterioration, the facility labeled her condition as 'failure to thrive.' They also falsely documented that she had dementia with Alzheimer's and Lewy bodies, which was not supported by her medical records. It became apparent that the facility was attempting to manipulate her diagnosis to justify prolonging her stay and undermining her autonomy. My loved one's actual diagnosis was later revealed to be cancer in the brain, which we had suspected all along. Due to her spine curvature, we were unable to perform an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. In the following weeks, I took my loved one outside for music therapy, during which she experienced severe bleeding. The nurse had failed to inform me of the bleeding, and it was only discovered when I assisted my loved one with using the facilities. I immediately demanded that the staff call 911, and my loved one was taken to Trinity Hospital. She opted out of further surgery and was transferred to the Marliere Hospice House, where she received compassionate care and was eventually able to return to her preferred assisted living facility. I am grateful that my loved one received the care she deserved, despite the negligence and manipulation she experienced at Southern Pines. I strongly advise against trusting this facility with the care of your loved ones.
