Port Orange Nursing and Rehab Center

We are very happy at Port Orange Nursing and Rehab. We especially like the activities. There is always something going on and Shannon makes everyone feel special. My nurse Cheryl is very caring and efficient.

My husband showed up at Port Orange Nursing and Rehab Center unannounced and requested a tour. Maureen, the Admission Administrator, immediately took him around the facility. He was impressed with the cleanliness, calmness of the facility and especially the activity in the gym.. Based on his conversation with Maureen and his observations, we chose Port Orange for my rehabilitative stay after hip surgery. The nurses on the 7-3 and 3-11 shifts were caring, answered my many questions and were prompt with my medication. I did not get to know the 11-7 shifts. Most of the CNAs were compassionate and treated me well. I need to give a shout out to four of them. Crystal and Liz on the 11-7 shifts were caring were unbelievable as well as Katie and Sarah on the 7-3 shifts were caring. All four answered the call button quickly and they always had a smile on their face. The therapist team is incredible! Even if you’re not their client, they greet you with a smile and greet as many people with their first name. Mt physical therapist is Ryan. He has/is (I am currently returning on an outpatient basis) tailored my program according to my needs and my progress. His expertise has helped me progress to a point that I’d never imagined achieving when I first arrived. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a physical therapist on an outpatient basis. I truly lucked out being assigned to him during my three week stay. There are two things your facility needs to improve. First - The food is terrible and by the time the trays leave the kitchen and are delivered to your room…it is cold. The only food I ate was the scrambled eggs in the morning and cooked vegetables from lunch and dinner. Thank goodness one was able to order a chef salad, among other things, if you didn’t like what was being served. Second - you need a shower team! Being able to shower 2 days a week is NOT ENOUGH. Your CNAs run during their entire shift, then have to fit in showers. The first shower I was offered was at 9:00 PM. After being up since 4::00 AM, I had to refuse. I was able to sponge.bathe myself every night before bed, but not all of your residents are able to do that. The only thing I could not do was wash my hair. Feeling good about yourself is part of the healing process. Daily showers would be my prerogative of the improvements I suggested. In summation, I would highly recommend your facility based on the caliber of nurses, aides and therapists who work there. Please work on the food and staffing for daily showers for your residents.

We’ve been very happy with the care Mom receives, and she says “the girls are all nice.” The staff is all friendly, caring and professional; and that includes all departments. Mom enjoys the “gym”. The building is clean and bright, and we all like spending time in the lovely garden.

Followed the process to file a complaint. I was only allowed to give a brief summary, even though the issues were complex. I was advised to call back in 2 weeks for an update. Really? It takes corporate over 14 days to review critical complaints? I know the medical staff in Florida is understaffed and I sympathize with those that are working above and beyond the call of duty. But is it just me or does anyone else find this unacceptable?

Everything is exceptionally clean, bright, and well maintained, which immediately gives you peace of mind. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you can tell that the staff works hard to create a comfortable, safe environment for residents and families alike. Beyond the beautiful facility, the team is compassionate, professional, and attentive. They go above and beyond to make sure every resident is treated with dignity and respect. It’s reassuring to know your loved one is in a place that not only looks great but genuinely cares about the people they serve.
